Assignment: Design and Development of an Animated Instructional Video Using Vyond

Assignment description and purpose:

This artifact involved designing an awareness video about safety steps for camping using the Vyond tool as part of the EDUC344 Designing Multimedia course.

The assignment was aligned with the course learning objectives by integrating technology into learning in order to improve the learning experience (LO1) and design effective digital instructional materials (LO9).

The purpose of this video was to raise awareness about outdoor behaviors to ensure safety for individuals and the natural environment. This video included preparation steps, important materials for camping, places to avoid, and common practices that might harm the nature.

Skills gained as an instructional designer:

Through this assignment, I learned how to create multimedia materials, and use Vyond’s main features, such as creating characters with different appearances and poses, drag-and-drop editing, and aligning them to the timeline to record or insert files. This experience strengthened my ability as an instructional designer to transform abstract topics into engaging and practical experiences taking into consideration learning styles and cognitive load.

The main strength of this assignment:

The main strength of this assignment was the use of visual assets and storytelling, which helped maintain learners’ engagement and simplify concepts into realistic scenarios.

Recommendations for Enhancing the Assignment:

If I were to improve this assignment, I would add decision-making interactions and keep the learner as participant by integrating this video to Learning Management system adding interactivity such as branching scenarios, this will help students to apply their learning and move them from passive learners to active learners. This assignment is aligned to the course EDUC 343 – Online Teaching and Learning, as it reflects the principles of effective digital learning, instructional clarity, and technology integration.
