Assignment: Designing an Interactive Course Using Storyline
This assignment aligns with the following program learning outcomes:
LO1: Apply technology-integration frameworks to promote innovation and enhance learning environments.
LO4: Develop and implement instructional methods based on pedagogical models and learning theories.
LO9: Create effective digital instructional materials and online learning environments.
The purpose of this assignment was to create a Storyline Course that explains the role of children in helping decision-making at NGOs. The assignment required a structured instructional design process from analysis, blueprint, storyboard to choosing the proper framework, such as the ADDIE model. This process ensures alignment in learning objectives and theories. This assignment required us to select multimedia elements and interactions, considering the target audience and active learning methods.
Skills gained as an instructional designer:
Through this assignment, I developed my ability to make instructional design decisions, think systematically, and reflect on the learning experience. This assignment also strengthened my ability to design an interactive and engaging e-learning content using Articulate Storyline, including building interactions such as drag and drop, click to reveal, working with layers, and aligning these learning interactions with objectives. It also improved my skills in creating feedback that supports building on knowledge and using critical thinking, such as branching scenarios.
The main strength of this assignment:
One of the main strengths of this artifact is that it provides the chance to work on real-life context, moving from theory and analysis to development, and connecting skills that closely reflect an instructional designer’s main duties. This reinforced my ability to design complete learning experiences.
This artifact aligns with the Instructional Design course EDUC 342 that I took during my MA program, where, I learned about instructional design models, such as the ADDIE model and others. While the previous course focused on understanding the instructional design models and the reasons behind selecting each, this assignment focused on applying the instructional design models to design a complete learning course.
Recommendations for Enhancing the Assignment:
One area I would improve in this artifact is to give the audience more space to share their input and perspectives, allowing for a variety of ideas and data contributions.
