Reflection 2: Challenges and Strategies

1. Introduction

During my instructional design experience with International Centre for Migration Policy Development, Rumie Academy, and American University of Beirut Global Health Institute, I faced several challenges related to adapting content, managing feedback, and working across different learning formats. These challenges helped me strengthen my professional competencies.

2. Challenges Encountered

One of the main challenges I encountered was adapting content to different learning formats. At ICMPD, I worked on fully structured courses, that required detailed organization, clear sequencing, and realistic scenarios for professionals, while at Rumie Academy I had to design short microlearning content focusing on one clear idea without overwhelming the learner. At AUB GHI, I balanced academic depth with interactivity by transforming dense subject matter expert content into engaging learning experiences.
Another challenge was managing feedback from different stakeholders. In ICMPD and AUB GHI, I received continuous feedback that required multiple revisions and careful alignment with stakeholder expectations.
I also faced time management challenges while working on multiple tasks and meeting strict deadlines across projects.
Finally, adapting content to different cultural and educational contexts required careful attention, especially when working on Arabic content and context-specific examples.

3. Strategies Used to Overcome Challenges

To overcome these challenges, I applied instructional design strategies such as learner-centered design, content chunking by breaking long content into smaller sections to improve the understanding. I made sure to align learning objectives with meaningful activities that require higher-order thinking.
I also used an iterative design approach, where I worked through feedback loops step by step to progressively refine the content.
To manage time effectively, I prioritized tasks and broke work into smaller steps, which helped me stay organized and meet deadlines.
Additionally, I adapted my design approach depending on the learning context, using micro-learning principles for Rumie Academy and more structured approaches for ICMPD and AUB GHI.
These strategies are aligned with the ADDIE model and helped me handle challenges in a structured and professional way.

4. Overall Reflection

These challenges helped me grow as an instructional designer by improving my ability to adapt, solve problems, and work collaboratively. I learned that flexibility and continuous improvement are essential in real instructional design projects.

5. Conclusion

In conclusion, the challenges I faced across these experiences strengthened my instructional design skills and prepared me to work in different learning environments. This experience confirmed the importance of applying instructional design principles in a flexible and context-based way.
